3D Art One

Mapping Ahead

We start 3D Art One with the simplest design element: line. Just like other Fine Artists learning to develop drawings line is a fundamental skill for building sculpture. You will start with contour drawings on paper, to practice how line wraps around form and illustrates depth.  Then we will create a head wire sculpture based on those drawings.  For this project we will look at the work of Alexander Calder who worked throughout his career in wire and metal. Calder used wire to translate drawings three dimensionally, describing form with line. He also created kinetic sculpture (moves) in the form of giant buoyant mobiles.
