Class Parent 2018

Senior Parent Night, 3.19.18

CLASS OF 2018

All upcoming Senior Activities will be discussed and pertinent information will be provided. Parents will also be given an opportunity to volunteer for any of the upcoming events.


1. SENIOR BALL – Saturday, 4.28.18
 Senior Ball will be held at The Exploratorium on Saturday, 4/28/18 from 7:00 – 11:00pm in San Francisco
 Tickets will be on sale online and during lunch at the bookkeeper’s window beginning Thursday, March 29th
 Tickets will not be sold at the door
 Food for the evening will include taco and nacho bar, mac and cheese bar, and assorted desserts
 Students are responsible for their own transportation to ball
 Please help us make sure that events hosted prior to and after senior ball are alcohol & drug free. Students found in possession of or under the influence at senior ball will be dealt with by SFPD and may lose their right to participate in other senior activities


2. GRADUATION & SENIOR INSPIRATION CEREMONY SPEECH TRYOUTS – Wednesday, 5.2.18
 Speech tryouts for the Senior Inspiration Ceremony and Graduation Ceremony will be held at 3:30 in the Large Conference Room.
 A panel of judges will select the speakers for both ceremonies
 A sign-up sheet for the try-outs will be posted on Mrs. Pagano’s door in the office
 The deadline to sign up is Friday, April 27th at 3:30pm
 Speeches may not exceed 5 minutes and in the past we have had serious and light speeches


3. SENIOR INSPIRATION CEREMONY – Wednesday, 5.23.18, 10:45am – 12:20pm
 This event will take place in the large gym during third and fourth periods
 Students will be recognized for accomplishments such as school awards, scholarships, etc.
 Students will be asked to fill out information regarding awards and scholarships they have received. Information sheet will be distributed after Spring Break from Jennifer Schikora
 Parents of senior students are invited to attend
 This will also be a farewell address to the graduating class of 2018
 There will be musical presentations by the band and chorus members, and speeches given by students chosen in speech try-outs
 It provides an opportunity for students and parents to celebrate the end of high school. We strongly encourage you to attend this inspiring event


4. SENIOR BBQ – Wednesday, 5.23.18 12:20pm – 1:15pm
 The senior BBQ will be held immediately after the Senior Inspiration Ceremony in the amphitheater
 The senior BBQ IS included in cost of Senior Gold Card
 IF YOU DID NOT purchase a senior gold card, you can purchase a ticket for $15 on the webstore or through our bookkeeper during lunch
 The BBQ includes burgers, tri-tip, veggie burgers, salad, French fries, and fruit


5. GRADUATION PRACTICE – THURSDAY, 5.31.18 1:00pm
 All seniors need to meet in the large gym no later than 1pm to receive the necessary information for graduation that evening
 After the talk in the gym, seniors will move to their assigned graduation rooms to run through graduation itself, we anticipate rehearsal to be finished around 2pm


6. GRADUATION – Friday, 6.1.18
 Graduation ceremony will begin promptly at 6:00 pm at the Sam Zackheim Stadium
 The gates to the stadium will open at 4:00 pm.
 No tickets for seating are necessary and seating is first come, first served.
 Shuttles and parking are available for handicapped.
 Students must report to their assigned rooms at 5:00pm dressed in their caps and gowns.
 All students must follow the proper dress code (please see attached)
 Borrowed Cap, Gown and Tassel
 Pick up Thursday 5/31 after graduation rehearsal in the office – please see Mrs. Gellerman or Mrs. Sirota
 Gown and tassels are to be returned after graduation in the office, at that time you will receive your diploma


7. GRAD NIGHT – Friday, 6.1.18
 Grad Night is an all-night event immediately following the Graduation Ceremony and is sponsored by the Senior Parents.
 This is an alcohol/drug free event! Information was distributed to the students at registration and at the start of the school year. Packets are available in the attendance office.


ADDITIONAL NOTES:
 Graduation announcement pick up was Tuesday, March 20th at brunch and lunch. If your announcements are not picked up, you will need to pick them up in the attendance office ASAP.
 The panoramic photo that was included in the senior gold card is being delivered over these next few weeks to seniors in their 4th period classes.
 Senior check out sheets will be delivered to seniors in May
 Diplomas are handed to seniors after they exit the stage
Miscellaneous
1. Graduation is usually a warm to hot day, please dress accordingly.
2. Students MUST participate in rehearsal if they plan to march in the ceremony.
3. Students will sit in alphabetical order
4. Any possession or use of alcohol/drugs during rehearsal or the ceremony will result in the student being removed from graduation and his/her diploma being mailed at a later date.
5. No cell phones, beach balls, horns, noise makers, etc.
6. Students involved in misbehavior at rehearsal or the ceremonies will be removed from graduation by Danville PD and their diplomas may be picked up in the office beginning June 4, 2018.


 

 

ADDITIONAL REMINDERS:


SENIOR CUT DAY
 There is no school sanctioned Senior Cut Day.
 Students who are absent from school will be marked absent in accordance with the district policy and subject to school rules.


LOSS OF SENIOR PRIVILEGES
 Any senior who is suspended from school, has attendance discipline, or who acts inappropriately at any senior activity may be suspended from any further senior activities (Including Graduation)


OUTSTANDING FINES
 In order to complete a Senior Check out and participate in the Graduation Ceremonies all seniors must go through a check out procedure.
 All outstanding fines (ex. Library fines, lost textbook fines) must be paid in order to complete the check- out procedure.

 

Graduation Ceremony Reminders and Dress Code
Please read through and be aware of the following rules and regulations associated with the Graduation Ceremony.
Dress Code: Graduation at Monte Vista is a formal event. Be proud of your time here at Monte Vista and your graduation from high school. With that, caps and gowns are to be worn as issued.
